This week in black girl magic news 12-year-old Marley Dias, the founder of #1000BlackGirlBooks, earned a spot on Forbes’ 30 under 30 list for 2018 and she is the youngest person to do so.
You may remember Marley from this post, where she founded her own book drive called #1000BlackGirlsBooks.
The drive collected books depicting black girls as the protagonists and since the launch, she has collected 8000 books promoting how important diversity in literacy is. Since then Marley has surpassed her original goal and collected over 10,000 books and a book deal of her own.
Marley has been in the news, to the white house where she had the opportunity to speak at the United States of the Women Summit alongside Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
She has conducted her own interviews as well with women like Ava Duvernay and has spoken at the 2017 Teen Vogue Summit.
“I’m working to create a space where it feels easy to include and imagine Black girls and make Black girls like me the main characters of our lives,” she told Forbes.
