There is no doubt in my mind that natural hair can be magical and downright artsy. Photographers Regis and Kahran of CreativeSoul studio in Atlanta created an amazing “AfroArt” series using the images of young women with their hair styled in ways that scream art, style, and black girl magic.
Photo series like this one are so important to the building blocks of this new cultural wave that we are trying to create where black hair is loved and accepted as is in all spaces.
Using young women to represent the beauty of natural hair was deliberate according to the photographers who said that for young women“…..The lack of diversity often plays into the stereotypes that they are not ‘good enough’ and often forces kids to have low self-esteem.
We try to combat these stereotypes in our photography by showing diverse imagery of kids who love the skin they’re in, their own natural curls and their culture. We think that these stories are important to show in order to shatter the current standards of beauty,”
The photos are gorgeous and I hope AfroArt is done year after year – Get into the series below courtesy of Creative Soul Photography!
Absolutely beautiful!
