A six yr old Georgia boy has died after shooting himself with a real gun he thought was a toy.
According to WSBTV, the police say he found the gun behind his apartment complex and shot himself in the head.
Calhoun Police said they responded to reports of someone shot on Neal Street in Gordon County around 3 a.m. Saturday.
Police found the boy dead at the scene.
The boy’s mother said she went outside of the home to let a dog out and the child went behind the apartment and came back, telling his mom he found a toy.
The mother said she didn’t think anything of it and they went back inside. The mother said that shortly thereafter, she heard a pop and found her son on the floor.
Calhoun City Schools identified the child as Zi Zi Olmstead and police confirmed he was the victim.
The gun was identified as a 9 mm Taurus.
Police Chief Tony Pyle said the incident is still under investigation.
A GoFundMe has been created by ZiZi’s grandmother to help with the funeral costs. The funeral is planned for November 16th and guests are being asked to wear blue and red, because ZiZi really loved Spiderman.
The superintendent for Calhoun City Schools Michele Taylor said that Zi Zi was loved by his classmates, teachers, and staff members.
“HE WAS LOVED BY HIS CLASSMATES, FRIENDS, TEACHERS AND STAFF MEMBERS. WE CONTINUE TO KEEP HIS FAMILY IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME.”
Our deepest condolences to the Olmstead family, Zi Zi’s teachers, and friends during this difficult time! ? pic.twitter.com/bDlfjGq5Lp
