According to NBC Washington and the global community are still reacting to President Joe Biden’s unexpected announcement on Sunday that he is ending his struggling reelection campaign and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the Democratic ticket.
These historic events are energizing Democrats and revitalizing their efforts to defeat former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.
In less than 24 hours, Harris’ newly launched campaign has garnered OVER $49.6 million in grassroots donations.
Additionally, some major Democratic donors who had previously withheld their contributions due to concerns about Biden have expressed their readiness to support Harris, including heiress Abigail Disney.
“Historically, the vice president has always been the heir-apparent in politics, period, and in the Democratic Party, in particular. So, I think those concerns are overblown, and I think everyone else is not waiting around for some kind of manufactured process. People are ready to go, and they are getting going,”
Meanwhile, Republicans are scrambling to adapt Trump’s campaign strategy, which was initially designed to defeat Biden, to now face a very different opponent.
This newfound momentum may be why West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, a former Democrat turned Independent who had indicated on Sunday that he might challenge Harris for the Democratic nomination, seems to be reconsidering his stance.
