Recently we shared a story about a Las Vegas mother who was facing eviction. Read the post here.
In an interview with CNN Dasha Kelly shared that she and her three daughters Harron, 8; Kia, 6; and Imani, 5 – are living on borrowed time, two months behind on rent at their two-bedroom Las Vegas apartment.
As a result of her story, many people donated money to help ‘the mother’ get back on her feet.
CNN has now retracted the story and changed the title because Dasha Kelly is now admitting she is not the mother of the three children pictured.
Update: After CNN aired a story about her potential eviction, Dasha Kelly clarified to CNN that she is not the mother of the three children featured in the story.
CNN has verified she takes care of the children in her home for periods of time. She says she originally described herself to CNN as a mother because she considers herself to be like one to them.
CNN has learned the children are also cared for by their mother, Shadia Hilo, and their father, David Allison, who is Kelly’s boyfriend.
GoFundMe tells CNN they are in close contact with Kelly and funds will stay on hold until they verify her information. GoFundMe says no funds have been withdrawn.
When we shared this story on social media, many of you questioned the validity of the whole thing, saying there is something deeper, things were not adding up.
One supporter even said in our comment section they knew the actual mother of the three kids. Turns out most of you were right.
CNN shared that they have spoken to Hilo, the mother of the girls, and to Dasha who shared that the girls will be returning to Hilo’s home for the start of the school year while Dasha tries to figure out her next steps.
We will update this post with more details as they come to fruition, at this point we just hope the money raised gets into the right hands or back to the donors.
