Angela Bassett, the queen of the silver screen, is finally getting her well-deserved recognition.
After gracing us with her presence for countless decades, this powerhouse actress will finally be clutching that shiny Oscar statuette later this year.
According to Vibe, the Academy has handpicked three other exceptional individuals to receive honorary awards:
- Mel Brooks
- Carol Littleton
- Michelle Satter
Bassett will receive her honorary Oscar at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on November 18.
Angela Bassett Should Have Won An Oscar Years Ago, But Better Late Than Never
Janet Yang, the Academy president, couldn’t contain her excitement.
“The Academy’s Board of Governors is thrilled to honor four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans. Across her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting.”
Bassett has two Oscar nominations to her name.
She received the first nomination for her unforgettable portrayal of Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” and the second for Best Supporting Actress in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
And she recently bagged a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award for her captivating role as Queen Ramonda.
So, let’s raise our glasses to Angela Bassett, an extraordinary talent who has left an indelible mark on cinema.
The long-awaited Oscar is finally within her grasp, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
I love this and she is more than deserving of the recognition. It’s just a shame though that so often black actors have to rely on honorary Oscars rather than being recognised in the competitive awards and the televised Oscars’ broadcast. pic.twitter.com/i851Hw2Nvr
