A tiktoker went viral on TikTok when she shared the ‘realest’ GRWM ever for her birthday, featuring tape-ins.
Sis picked up a camera with a glass of wine, hair half done, and had us rethinking tape in’s within three minutes.
Tape-in extensions, as their name suggests, are sections of hair attached to a strong adhesive as explained in this post.
When applying them, your stylist sandwiches your natural strands between two extension pieces, and the adhesive is attached to the scalp.
Watch:
The most common sentiment seems to be that tape-ins are not for us, and they are damaging to natural hair.

Here is our opinion:
1. Tape-ins should always be professionally done
2. The consultation is critical for matching texture and assessing hair health
3. The weather matters
We also think expensive installs are the root of some of the issues we have seen. When a style is expensive it forces the consumer “to DIY” which can be disastrous.
Some styles require experience and professional help to ensure that your hair is safe and that your installation is a great experience.
