Looks like we might have to wait a little longer for that new album.
Still, fans can rest easy knowing a more certain project with the “Sundress” rapper is locked and loaded.
During a Monday (December 9th) sit-down with Deadline at the 2024 Red Sea International Film Festival, Spike Lee confirmed that A$AP Rocky would be returning to the big screen as a lead in his forthcoming Highest 2 Lowest film.
“The main role is…A$AP Rocky,” the acclaimed film director shared, declining to reveal any more details about the rapper’s involvement in his latest project. “People will see when it comes out,” he added. “It’s dynamite.”
Others slated to appear in the film include Ice Spice, who will make her Hollywood debut, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, and Denzel Washington.
A$AP Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers) made his feature film debut in 2015’s Dope before turning his scene-stealing performances in 2016’s Zoolander and 2018’s Monster.
Highest 2 Lowest marks a significant step up in terms of collaborators and prestige for the Harlem MC. He is also slated to appear in the upcoming dramedy If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, an A24 Project produced by the Safdie Brothers.

Although Lee has remained tight-lipped about Highest 2 Lowest’s production details, he has previously stressed that it is not a remake.
“This is not a remake,” he told Deadline. “This is a reinterpretation” of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller High and Low.
“In Kurosawa’s film, Toshiro Mifune is a shoemaker. In our film Denzel Washington is a music mogul with his own label and his reputation as the best ears in the business. So, this is the fifth film with the dynamic duo,” Lee added.
This will be the fifth film Lee and Washington have collaborated on, following 1990’s Mo’ Better Blues, 1992’s Malcolm X, 1998’s He Got Game, and 2006’s Inside Man.
Apple Original Films is teaming up with A24 for Highest 2 Lowest. A24 will handle the theatrical release before the film hits global streaming on AppleTV+.
If Don’t Be Dumb isn’t out by then, maybe A$AP Rocky can whip up a killer soundtrack for the film.
