Oh man… oh man …oh man… not again… back to back for the N___a’s who didn’t get the message …or whatever Drake said!
It has been only 3 days and Kendrick Lamar has dropped another track this time aimed at Drake’s crew ‘Toosie Slide’.
According to Variety the new song, “6:16 in LA,” parodies the titles of Drake’s popular, introspective “timestamp songs,” like 2013’s “4 PM in Calabasas” and 2023’s “8 AM in Charlotte.”
In the new track, which Lamar dropped via Instagram on Friday at 9 a.m. ET, the rapper aims at Drake’s OVO crew (“Have you ever thought that OVO was workin’ for me? / Fake bully, I hate bullies, you must be a terrible person / Everyone in your team is whispering that you deserve it”) and namechecks one of his viral hits (“Can’t ‘Toosie Slide’ out of this one / it’s just gon’ resurface”).
The theme of Drake’s crew consisting of hangers-on is consistent through the song, as Lamar later raps,
“If you were street smart, then you woulda caught that your entourage is only to hustle you / A hunnid n—-s that you got on salary, and 20 of ’em want you as a casualty.”
Notably, Lamar’s release of the two songs before Drake has had a chance to respond is reminiscent of Drake’s 2015 beef with Meek Mill. At that time, Drake released two diss tracks — “Charged Up” and “Back to Back” — within four days of each other.
Lamar’s “Euphoria” refers to that beef and, in retrospect, teased this new song, as he rapped, “’Back to Back,’ I like that record / I’ma get back to that, for the record.”
Lamar and Drake’s beef first started when the former slammed Drake and J. Cole in a verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s song “Like That” in March. Cole responded with a diss track, “7 Minute Drill,” which he pulled from streaming services soon after its release.
Drake also released two diss tracks: “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle,” the latter of which was removed from streaming services as it featured an AI performance from 2Pac, causing his estate to threaten a lawsuit.
