Did you miss me?
Almost 30 years after Martin went off the air, fans of the beloved series are finally getting the spinoff they didn’t know they needed.
BET+ announced Tuesday (April 15) that it is currently developing Varnell Hill, a spinoff centered on Tommy Davidson’s iconic character, who made an unforgettable two-episode appearance in Season 2 of Martin.
While it’s still unclear if Martin Lawrence will make a guest appearance, the Bad Boys star is on board as an executive producer.
Original Martin showrunner Bentley Evans and Super Bowl Halftime Show producer Jesse Collins are also attached as executive producers.
“Did you miss me? Well, now you don’t have to!” Tommy Davidson said in a statement. “I’m excited and honored to be a part of such a creative project with the brilliant mind of Martin Lawrence, over 30 years in the making. Fans have requested it and now it’s coming to BET+!”

According to BET, Varnell Hill will be a workplace comedy that dives into the chaotic world of television production.
The series will follow Varnell as he navigates the highs, lows, and hilarity of trying to stay relevant in an ever-evolving entertainment industry, all while juggling the egos of network execs, business stakeholders, and a quirky creative team.
“With its blend of satire, humor, cutaways, and fourth-wall breaks, the show promises to engage audiences in a fresh and innovative way,” the network teased.
The forthcoming series has received an eight-episode order and promises exciting new characters and celebrity guest cameos.
This marks the second Martin-inspired project in the works. A dramatic prequel based on the original series was announced last year.
Along with Lawrence, Collins, and Evans, other executive producers include Dionne Harmon, Andy Horne, Runteldat Entertainment’s Stacy Lyles, Robert Lawrence, and Rae Proctor.
