Big Sean is adding author to his list of accomplishments.
The 36-year-old Detroit native, born Sean Anderson, launched his first book, Go Higher: Five Practices For Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace, on Tuesday (January 21st), and we couldn’t be more excited.
The book, published by Simon & Schuster, features a foreword by best-selling author and On Purpose podcaster Jay Shetty and Sean’s five key practices for shadow work – accepting, strategizing, trying, trusting, and manifesting.
These practices are backed by Sean’s personal experiences with journaling, affirmations, meditation, and other reflective exercises that guide readers toward finding their own inner peace.
“Go Higher is a spiritual guidebook for modern times that proves that investing in yourself isn’t something that drains your energy but rather something that gives you the energy to reach your full potential.”
In an Instagram post from December, Big Sean explained that his motivation to write the self-help book was spurred by a conversation he had with Shetty.
“I took the time over the last 2 years to write this, Go Higher..,” the rapper said at the time. “My view on self-reflection, taking action, and mental persistence for anyone that is looking to better themselves.”
“In Go Higher, Sean ‘Big Sean’ Anderson explores the essential elements of personal growth and fulfilment,” Deepak Chopra, MD, bestselling author and founder of the Chopra Foundation, said of the book in a statement to Billboard.
“Each chapter provides valuable insights and practical steps for those looking to deepen their self-awareness and elevate their lives. This book serves as a compelling resource for readers committed to enhancing their personal and spiritual development.

Big Sean postponed and canceled several book events due to the wildfires in Los Angeles, which destroyed the home of his long-term partner, Jhene Aiko, and their son, Noah.
“My family’s house caught on fire; I couldn’t commit to anything except that,” he explained on Instagram, adding that the proceeds from the book’s preorders would go to those affected by the Altadena and Palisades fires.
Sean has been previously vocal about his mental health struggles, telling Michael Eric Dyson in a 2021 interview that he once contemplated suicide but improved his well-being by taking a step back from his career.
“I took time off, canceled everything I was doing, sought therapy, connected with God more, spiritually grounded myself, and put myself first as a priority for the first time ever,” he said.
