When it comes to nail polish, there are a million options out there.
However, nail polish brands owned by Black women are not that common.
This is despite the fact that Black women are responsible for some of the coolest nail art.
So, it’s essential to shine a light on them.
Below are Black woman-owned nail polish brands that will make you feel like a star.
Bernadette Thompson Nail Care
Bernadette Thompson is a trendsetter when it comes to nail art.
Since 2015, she has taught classes to licensed nail technicians the world over.
She has also led the nail team for fashion week in 6 different countries.
Thompson is also the first Black woman to own a nail care line in the U.S.
Bernadette Thompson Nail Care offers uber-cool shades that are also practical and sophisticated.
And that’s not all she offers.
You can also check out her treatments and nail polish remover.
Suite Eleven
If you’re tired of chemicals in your nail polish or you have sensitive skin, Suite Eleven offers a healthy alternative.
Owned by Arieal “Ari” Smith-Liburd, Suite Eleven is PETA-certified, toxic-free, and vegan.
Ari started formulating it in 2015 after she was forced to scrap her beauty products because of the food and chemical allergies they gave her.
She launched Suite Eleven in 2018, and it took off in a big way.
The nail polish has been featured in major publications like Elle, Allure, and Vogue.
Ari hopes to use the brand to inspire people.
She has worked with Style for Purpose, where she spent a day uplifting and pampering young women who were going through a rough time.
She also hopes to open a luxurious beauty bar one day.
With the rapid success of Suite Eleven, it is only a matter of time until she can open it.
Triple O Nail Polish
Founder Symantha Wechie-Onyechi has an avid love of nail polish.
She is also massively inspired by pre-colonial African history.
Put the two together, and you get Triple O Nail Polish; one of the most distinct Black woman-owned nail polish brands.
Symantha chose to make her own nail polish after finding constant disappointment with the options in the market.
She started making nude shades based on her skin tone and soon discovered a love of creating unique colors that look well on any skin tone.
Symantha names her collections after ancient African states like the Kingdom of Nri and the Bamana Empire.
Mischo Beauty
During Kitiya King’s first pregnancy, she wanted a chip-resistant nail polish whose ingredients were safe and healthy.
However, her search was futile.
So, Kitiya decided to make her own
She put her knowledge to use—she holds a degree in chemistry and cosmetology—and two years later, Mischo Beauty was born.
All of its products are 10 FREE, which means they do not have any ingredients that might cause birth defects, cancer, reproductive problems, headaches, lightheadedness, and more.
Mischo Beauty is currently available on its online store along with Macy’s.
Habit Cosmetics
It’s often hard to balance sustainability with quality.
Not for Habit Cosmetics.
All products in this 10-FREE nail polish line contain myrrh extract to make your nails stronger.
They also have sustainable packaging that includes an FSC-certified paperboard, recycled plastic parts, a glass bottle, and a bamboo cap.
Aja Frierson founded Habit Cosmetics in 2013 because she noticed how nail care brands either did one or two things well, but not everything.
She also noted the distinct lack of representation by Black women.
So, she launched the brand to make an inclusive beauty brand and to make the best clean makeup products.
Aja believes that when you get ready for your day, you should not feel guilt or apply any toxins to your body.
