Dame Dash has admitted that he delayed evacuating his family from their Florida home as Hurricane Milton bore down, all because he didn’t want to seem “soft.”
Speaking on Instagram Live, the Roc-A-Fella founder shared his questionable decision to delay fleeing the Category 3 storm, which has since claimed 12 lives and left millions without power after slamming into Florida on Wednesday (October 9).
“We were like, ‘Alright, we’re gonna try to grind it out and stay,” Dash said. “Because none of our neighbors were leaving and the people that we knew that are from Florida — like every day all day [weren’t leaving]. It kinda seemed like we were soft if we were leaving. Pause.”
Dash explained that his family has weathered its fair share of natural disasters. In 2023, they survived a handful of hurricanes and a raging wildfire at their Wyoming ranch.
“I’m like, ‘Damn, why are we always in the mix?’” he continued. “And, of course, we get here (Florida)… and, of course, we end up right in the thick of things and be challenged. You know, we’d work it out, but who wants to be uncomfortable? Plus, with a baby and four dogs.”

Fortunately, once his fiancée, Raquel Horn, and others around him started ‘stressing a little,’ Dash realized it was best to pack up and head to a safer location.
“I started stressing a little and [Dash’s artist] Nicolette and all the people that were calling. Finally, we were like, ‘Yo, let’s just get up out of here. As long as we can get gas, we got a place to go,” he said.
“If you live in a place where natural disasters happen — like hurricanes, like once a year — you gotta have a hurricane house on deck to go to. So we developed that, and we figured it out so we know where we’re going amongst family and all that.”
He signed off:
“If people warn you… I’m out. I don’t care. We gotta go. I got a family. Even this evacuation is still fun when you’re with the people you love, as long as they’re not panicking.
“But I’m sick of this shit, I ain’t gonna hold you.”
