We have an update regarding the devastating story out of Georgia, where a couple lost their child due to gross negligence.
A Fulton County jury has awarded Jessica Ross and Treveon Taylor Sr. $2.25 million—including $2 million in damages and $250,000 in punishment—to hold a doctor accountable for violating their privacy and trust.
If you recall July 2023, Ross tragically delivered a baby who suffered shoulder dystocia, a rare but serious birth complication.
The infant was decapitated during delivery and, according to the Clayton County Medical Examiner, this was ruled a homicide.
Grieving and seeking answers, the couple hired Dr. Jackson Gates to perform a private autopsy. They trusted him to handle their child with care and discretion.
Instead, he did the opposite: Gates shared graphic videos—including footage of their child’s face and internal organs—on his public Instagram account, even reposting after being told to stop. The couple said they weren’t aware or asked for permission.
The lawsuit charged Gates with invasion of privacy, emotional distress, and fraud, and the jury sided with the family.
In their statements, Ross and Taylor’s attorneys described the act as pouring salt on an already unbearable wound “betraying their trust” when they needed him most.
Gates defended himself by saying the posts were educational and that the child couldn’t be identified. But the jury disagreed, finding his actions reprehensible enough to issue maximum damages allowed under Georgia law.
