Gayle King and Oprah joined philanthropist Melinda French Gates about friendship and getting older in a new series called “Moments that Makes Us”.
The entire episode was great but we found it particularly funny when Gayle candidly spoke about how the long time friends reconciled the infamous ‘gay rumors’.
Oprah said for years people used to say we were gay or whatever …and listen we were up against that forever. Gayle chimed in saying and I used to say to Oprah, you’ve gotta do a show on this because It’s hard enough for me to get a date on Saturday night …People thinking we are gay, because if we were gay we would tell you.
Oprah gave her take on the whole thing saying, maybe people were not used to seeing women with ‘this kind of truth bond’.
she said their friendship worked because Gayle tends to be happier for her with any kind of success or victory more than she is for herself.
While we have no specific idea on where the rumors about Gayle and Oprah came from we did agree with what they said about jealousy in friendships.
Their perspective on jealousy aligns with many women of a certain age where we learn over time that having jealous friends can be dangerous and an absolute drag.
Oprah said:
You cant really be friends with anybody who has a hint of jealousy about anything that you are doing.
Emphatically claiming you have to distance yourself or cut that thing off.
