Accoridng to Vibe GloRilla has removed a word that many found offensive from an upcoming release after receiving backlash over the track.
In a new upload featuring the July VIBE cover star and two of her friends, Glo removes the word “retarded” and replaces it with “go naughty.”
The change is subtle, but was appreciated by much of her fanbase who find the word abhorrent, while others believed the controversy was truly a non-issue.
“There’s [way] more [poop emoji] to be pressed about!! But yall wanna pick this to be stressed over [eye-roll emoji] !!!! with all the worldly stuff happening wake up and focus on the real issues,” argued stylist EJ King within TSR’s comment section, with another supporter of the Memphis darling adding, “So yall can use the B word, N word, C word but crying about the R word?”
Lizzo apologized for a similar lyrical gaffe in 2022 after using the word “spazz” on her song, “GRRRLS.”
“It has been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song Grrrls. Let me make one thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language,” she wrote at the time. “As a fat black woman in America, I have had many hurtful words used against me so I understand the power words can have (whether intentionally, or in my case, unintentionally).
She added that removing the word, “is the result of me listening and taking action. As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world.”
