We recently learned about this style even though it has been around for ages. We saw a now-viral video on TikTok of a stylist doing the style on one of her clients.
Caribbean stylist @pweetygurl509 shared that the style is new for her because she is a braider. If you are from the 80s/90’s era then you have probably heard of this style or seen it done.
When you do typical finger waves, you are simply molding the hair with a comb into ‘S’ shapes. You can do finger waves, on wet hair or dry hair.
Pineapple waves involve molding the hair using a hair net and slightly raising the hair through the holes on the net using a rat tail comb to create little bumps or C-like waves.

the results after sitting under the dryer with the mold should be similar to this:

After @pweetygurl509 posted the above video, many of her followers commented saying the style wasn’t new, dating back to the 80’s.
If you are a 2000 baby then you might not be as familiar and this would be new to you, as the stylist made clear on a second video.

Like finger waves, you can do this style on wet or dry hair, and you do not necessarily have to use a net, you can mold it with just the comb if you are skilled like that.
Now if you want to see a few throwback pictures of this style, some of these were on Instagram from 2016.
