#Inspired – This 26yr Old Franchise Owner Will Open Downtown LA’s First Chick-Fil-A

Ashley Derby is an Atlanta native, a Spelman College graduate and is being celebrated as the youngest and the first to open a new Chick-fil-A Inc. in downtown Los Angeles.

In an interview, she said “The energy in downtown L.A. is palpable,” “I cannot wait to become a part of this growing neighborhood, and I look forward to welcoming our guests with handcrafted food and hospitality.”

Ashley’s story is everywhere because of just how inspiring she is! She began her career as a franchise owner at just 26yrs old and worked at Chick-Fila since she was 15 years old as a team member at a restaurant in Atlanta.

She used the money she earned as a teen to purchase her first car and continued to work right through her Spelman years before taking a job at the University of Southern California Chick-fil-A.

Via the Chick-fil-a Blog Ashley gives a bit more insight on how she got started on the path to ownership and building the team she leads:

“At the time, I thought it was just a great job to have while pursuing my degree in theatre,” says Derby. That is, until her restaurant Operator pulled her aside to ask about her long-term goals and recommend a career in leadership.

“I’d never considered it. Sometimes you just need someone to help you see your potential,” says Derby. Derby says her passion is to help her team grow.

“I want to help them get to where they want to go, whether it’s a career with Chick-fil-A, or studying law or medicine, or anything. I want to help them make that next step, just like so many have done for me,” says Derby.

Derby’s hard work is paying off. Most recently, she was awarded the company’s Symbol of Success, an honor reserved for Chick-fil-A Operators whose businesses experience particularly high sales growth.

“It’s humbling to be honored. But I feel like I’m just getting started,” says Derby.
