JJ Redick was introduced as the new Los Angeles Lakers head coach.
However, less than 24 hours after the announcement, a former Duke student accused Redick of calling her the n-word when he was a Blue Devil.
According to OutKick, Duke alum Hallemah Nash shared a post on X accusing Redick of calling her the n-word.
“I’ve only been called the N word to my face by a white man once in my life and it was on the campus of Duke University while I was doing work with the basketball team. And today he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world.”
On Tuesday, Redick’s spokesperson denied the allegations on TMZ:
“No, it never happened.”
Nash didn’t specify when the incident happened, but her LinkedIn profile shows she worked with the Duke basketball team from 2003 to 2004–and JJ Redick played for the Blue Devils between 2002 and 2006.
The post has gained over 26 million views and 32,000 shares.

Nash shared another post addressing JJ Redick’s privilege.
“This was years ago and Im a believer that we all have space to grow- especially from our college level maturity. We live in a world where these exchanges happen and the intersection of race and privilege and lack of accountability all collided w/that presser.”
Nash got a bachelor’s degree from Howard University and a master’s from Duke.
She founded Rosecrans Ventures, which works “for generation Z talent of color and operate as an advisor to companies interested in developing diverse talent pipelines through internships.”
