Jodie Turner-Smith is breaking her silence on her ex, Joshua Jackson’s budding romance with Lupita Nyong’o.
“Good for them,” she told The Cut in a recent interview. “We need happiness in order to peacefully co-parent. I’m trying to get us to the Gwyneth [Paltrow] and Chris Martin level. I truly hope they’re happy and that it benefits us as a family.”
The Queen & Slim star, who filed for divorce from Jackson in October 2023, said she hopes she and Jackson can get along like another A-list co-parenting ex-couple — Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow.
“I’m trying to get us to the Gwyneth and Chris Martin level,” Turner-Smith joked.
Jackson and Nyong’o, 41, first sparked romance rumors in October of last year when they were spotted together at a Janelle Monae concert, just weeks after Turner-Smith filed for divorce.
Two months later, in December, the couple confirmed their relationship by holding hands while taking a stroll in Joshua Tree, California.
In March, they were seen packing on the PDA in Mexico as they celebrated Lupita’s birthday, with an eyewitness saying, “They looked madly in love like they just couldn’t get enough of one another.”
After their split, Turner-Smith and Jackson agreed to joint physical and legal custody of their daughter, with neither party required to pay child support.
“I just have to do everything that I can to set Juno up to win,” she added, “and to peacefully co-parent with someone whom I once loved very, very much,” the actress shared.
“Peace is what’s needed right now. Grace is what’s needed right now. Love, empathy, compassion. I’m trying to be all those things and have faith that when I’m all those things, I will see that reflected back toward me.”
The Acolyte star also admitted that going public with her relationship with the Dawson’s Creek alum was “really innocent,” it ultimately made their love life fodder for public scrutiny; she won’t do that again.
When you’re in the public eye, a part of you belongs to the public. It stops being yours and becomes theirs too,” Turner-Smith said.
“I didn’t have an accurate scope of understanding what it would mean to share my relationship with the public. It’s something I will never do again. Ever. That is one major lesson that I took away from this, which is just that people don’t need to know everything.”
When asked if she’ll return to the dating market, Turner-Smith said she is focused on motherhood and “working more than usual.”
“I don’t have the luxury of turning down a job because of location,” she noted. “I am a single mom now. ’I got a baby. I need some money. I need cheese for my egg,’ as Ms. Cardi B says.”
The talented actress recently wrapped up filming A Big Bold Beautiful Journey alongside Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie. She is currently promoting her latest project, The Acolyte, which just premiered its first two episodes on Disney+.
