John Amos’ family is caught in turmoil as loved ones question the circumstances surrounding his death.
As previously reported, Amos passed away on Aug. 21, though the public—and even his daughter Shannon—didn’t learn of his death until Tuesday.
This move added yet another layer to the already tumultuous relationship between Shannon and her brother Kelly Christopher Amos (K.C.).
Two have been locked in a bitter dispute over their dad’s care and legacy, with Shannon even publicly accusing her brother K.C. of elder abuse and “brainwashing” his dad.
Then yesterday (October 2nd), it was revealed that Amos’ cause of death was congestive heart failure, with K.C. listed on the death certificate as the “informant.”
TMZ also reported that The Good Times actor had been cremated nine days after his death and that K.C was in possession of his dad’s remains.

Now, the family is questioning the circumstances surrounding his death, with Shannon claiming that a woman impersonating her was present at the hospital.
The entertainment executive turned healer posted a message Tuesday evening, claiming that a woman in the ER “pretended to be” John Amos’ daughter on the night the actor died.
“I’m his only daughter,” the message continued. “We believe it was Belinda Foster, the woman who was also posing as his publicist. He died alone without family.”
Shannon then requested that anyone with information message her, assuring them that it would be “confidential.”
“Because that wasn’t me,” she added. “I’m his only daughter, and that woman was lying. We only found out today, along with the rest of the world.”
The family also released a statement on Facebook, alleging that they were not only uninformed of Amos’ death but were also unaware of where and how he died.
They expressed their fears that Amos “was likely cremated to avoid any potential investigation into the conditions surrounding his final days.”
The statement further alleges that, over the past year, K.C. ‘isolated’ John from his close family and friends and that he “controlled and monitored his calls” and severed ties with Shannon, John’s brother, his grandchildren, business manager, goddaughter, former accountant, and others.
Meanwhile, heartfelt condolences continue to pour in from fans, friends, and fellow actors, with many remembering Amos as a charismatic performer who truly loved his craft and brought warmth to every role.
Reflecting on his relationship with his daughter last year, Amos told People that he hoped for a “harmonious relationship” with Shannon during a period of estrangement and acknowledged that their relationship was “somewhat acrimonious” at the time.
“Right now, it is somewhat acrimonious, but never mind what you might read or hear about in the paper or on this medium or that medium platform,” Amos shared with the publication. “Suffice it to say we are still family, and we love each other—and that’s the bottom line.”
