Keke Palmer might be all booked and busy, but you won’t see her flaunting wealth.
While speaking at the Building Wealth Today for Tomorrow Financial Empowerment Summit on Saturday (October 12), the Illinois native opened up about her own financial journey, including filing for bankruptcy at 18.
“I was so spooked. I was like, ‘What went wrong?’” Palmer recalled before sharing how that situation promoted her to live below her means.
“If I got $10,000 in the bank, then my house would be $500 a month. That’s how under I mean, because I can probably afford something $2,500 maybe, but I’m going way under. Do you know why? Because I wanna invest in my business,” she said.
“Instead of wearing Gucci, I’m wearing Zara. I live in a good place. I don’t drive a cool car, ’cause my money is going elsewhere… I got a Toyota right now in my driveway.”
Palmer’s stance comes days before WNBA star Angel Reese disclosed her financial problems.
Despite being a popular Chicago Sky forward, Reese admitted that her salary wasn’t enough to pay her car note or even buy her a sandwich.
Reese’s rent alone is about $8,000 a month and her endorsement deals and other forms of income are what the LSU alum uses to make up for what her salary doesn’t cover.
“That WNBA check don’t pay a thing. Did that even pay my car note?… I wouldn’t even be able to eat a sandwich with that. I wouldn’t even be able to eat. I wouldn’t be able to live,” she said.
“We’re gonna make more money, though.”
