Kerry Washington has joined the ranks of investors backing a rising social media platform that focuses on community, culture, and commerce.
According to an exclusive report from TechCrunch, the actress has financially supported the app Spill, which is gearing up to celebrate its second year.
Washington, an active user of the platform, regularly engages with her audience by hosting live video chats, affectionately called “tea parties,” where she connects with fans and shares updates.
“She’s incredibly accessible and knowledgeable, especially around these topics, and is not scared in any way, shape, or form about really engaging with people directly,” detailed founder Alphonzo Terrell to the outlet. “I think it really does represent the kind of environment we want to cultivate on Spill … We’re all human here, too. Let’s connect.”
Kerry said:
“When I joined Spill as a user, I was amazed and inspired by how safe the community felt. I immediately wanted to support the growth of the platform, because safety is a powerful tool to foster honesty, creativity, connection, and community,”
“In a digital world where marginalized groups, especially Black, Brown, and LGBTQIA folks, rarely feel prioritized, SPILL stands out. I’m proud to be part of this community as both a user and an investor.”
In her most recent appearance on Spill, the 47-year-old actress hosted a special Tea Party for Voter Registration Day, where she opened the floor for conversations on key issues surrounding the upcoming election.
Washington highlighted the power voters have to create political and social change.
On Spill, users—known as Spillionaires—can add up to 90 characters of text to any image, GIF, or video, offering a creative way to express themselves.
People can also engage by sharing, quoting, commenting, or “Spilling” their thoughts, with the Spillboard showcasing trending topics globally. Alongside live chats and discussions, users can play games like Spades or join a Tea Party.
The app is available for both iOS and Android devices.
