News about The Bodyguard remake has Hollywood and fans spinning the casting wheel, and some of the names flying out have us doing double-takes.
Just last week, former America’s Next Top Model host Tyra Banks went viral after throwing Taylor Swift’s name in the ring. And now, according to the Daily Mail, producers of the remake are reportedly eyeing Kim Kardashian for the iconic leading role.
“There have been already multiple meetings, and the script has been written with Kim in mind,” a source told the news outlet.
“Everyone immediately assumed Taylor Swift would get the lead, the role played by Whitney Houston in the original fil, because The Bodyguard remake is being directed by Sam Wrench who directed the 2023 film about Taylor’s Eras Tour.”
However, “Warners Bros, the studio remaking the original, is very keen on Kim.”
The original film starred Whitney Houston as singer Rachel Marron, who is stalked by a deranged fan, and co-starred Kevin Costner as her devoted bodyguard Frank Farmer.
If Kim Kardashian were to land the role of Rachel Marron, this would mark her big-screen debut as a leading lady.
The source also revealed that the remake might not be a “musical”, making the need for the lead role to be a singer optional.
“Everyone is assuming the remake will be a musical but there has been talk of making a sequel for years and most of the talk has been about taking it in a different direction, using a global celebrity but not necessarily having it as a musical, more a straightforward drama,” they said.
“Let’s face it, how can you top Whitney?”
Another anonymous Warner Bros. source alleged that Kardashian was “always the person attached to this project. Kim Kardashian is one of the most recognizable women on the planet.”
“She believes she has what it takes to be a major movie star. She’d be perfect for The Bodyguard, and she knows it. Everyone is very excited.”
Another name suggested for the leading role was Taylor Swift; however, according to the source, “her name wasn’t mentioned until the news came out that the remake is in the work and then it was mostly Swifties saying she’d be perfect for the part.”
“Of course, no one would ever count out Taylor if she was interested in the role,” they added. “Let the battle of the divas commence!”
The original Bodyguard movie was nominated for two Oscars, and the soundtrack became the top-selling movie soundtrack of all time with hits including I Will Always Love You, I Have Nothing, and Run To You.
Previous discussions of a reimagining involved Kevin Costner and the late Princess Diana.
