Larenz Tate wants you to know that he is ready to play somebodies husband in his next role!
In a new post the generational heart throb said he has been in a few Hollywood meetings where executives have asked him what he wants to do.
In his caption he wrote:
Lookin to play a husband. Hollywood executives wanna know what I wanna do? So…let’s discuss.
Who’s the wife?
What’s the genre?
Movie? TV?
“I’ve been in these business meetings outchea in these Hollywood streets and it’s interesting ’cause often times, people in these rooms wanna know what I wanna do. I’m like ‘I gotta do something romantic.’ I wanna play somebody’s husband!”
“Let me do that! Let’s get into it. I got some experience in that area.” Tate noted that he has no preference on the genre. “It can be a comedy. It can be dramatic. It can be something that’s tense — suspense! Whatever the genre is, I’m feeling the love. I’m feeling the love; that’s all.”
Then he joked:
“I don’t know about no zaddies, but definitely a husband.”

All Jokes aside some fans stated the obvious according to Vibe.
He should simply reprise his breakout role as Darius Lovehall in Love Jones and play the husband to Nia Long’s character, Nina Mosley, in a sequel.
One user, @theweekendwatch, even replied with a full premise.
“The only correct answer here is Nina’s husband Darius. 27 years later y’all have built a life in Chicago got over all the humps from your dating life we saw in Love Jones. Now you face new challenges as a married couple with kids. Your kids are older tho; y’all have an empty nest and you’re trying to bring back the spark you had back in the day because you forgot your ‘why’ when it comes to each other which a lot of married people tend to do when life gets to [life-ing]. Give us the black love story give us the ups and downs of marriage and parenting and family and friends etc. Y’all still look good AF and can definitely pull this off. We have so much mess on TV right now we need y’all back together again,” they wrote.
Their idea was similar to The Best Man: Final Chapters and would be a great conclusion to Darius and Nina’s love story.
Ava DuVernay also commented, “Copy that,” hinting that she may choose to direct the film where Tate plays someone’s husband that won’t necessarily be a Love Jones sequel.
Funny enough, the actor admitted in October 2023 that he and Nia Long were figuring out what a modern rendition of their classic film would look like.
“We feel like we should do something, but something different. TV show, movies that could be a franchise — we’ve discussed everything. We talked about all kinds of stuff because we know what Love Jones meant, we know what those characters meant, and we know what the message and the story meant to us. And we don’t want to disrupt that, we don’t want to shake that up, and do something that doesn’t live up to our expectations of our audience would want from us,“ Tate explained to AL.com.
Most of all, he’s ready to “put that [rumor] to rest and get into production.”
