According to Hot 107 The music world is mourning the loss of Justin “BeatKing” Riley, a legendary rapper and producer who passed away today (Aug. 15).
According to multiple reports, including his manager and Houston’s radio station 97.9 The Box, BeatKing’s untimely death has left a void in the Southern hip-hop community and beyond.
The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
BeatKing, also known as “Club Godzilla,” was more than just an artist; he was a trendsetter who redefined Southern club music. With his infectious beats and unique marketing approach, BeatKing quickly rose to fame, capturing the hearts of fans and fellow artists alike.
His manager released a heartfelt statement, saying,
“Today, August 15, 2024, we have lost @clubgodzilla. BeatKing has been the best part of the club for over a decade. He has produced and worked with so many artists, that his sound will forever live. He loved his daughters @clubgodparenting, his music, and his fans. We will love him forever.”
Houston’s 97.9 The Box, where BeatKing was considered family, also expressed their grief, stating,
“Our hearts are heavy with the news that BeatKing, family to us here at 97.9 The Box and Radio ONE Houston, has passed away. This is a developing story, but we are sending our love to his loved ones, friends, peers, and the whole city of Houston. We love you, BeatKing.”
Born on November 24, 1984, BeatKing’s journey into music began in his childhood, where he played the drums alongside his mother, the church pianist.
He burst onto the scene in 2010 with the release of “Kings of the Club,” which featured hit singles like “Crush,” “Hammer,” and “Lil TJones.”
His third solo album, *Club God,* released in 2011, cemented his place in the industry with the Billboard-charting single “You Ain’t Bout That Life.”
BeatKing’s influence on Southern music, particularly in Houston, is immeasurable. His innovative approach to music and marketing has left a lasting impact on the industry.
