It’s official – there is no more “us” for Lupita Nyo’ngo and Joshua Jackson.
The Wild Robot star confirmed her split from Jackson in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK published on Wednesday (October 9th).
“My love for my cat is singular,” Lupita said. “If I’m ever so lucky to be in a romantic relationship again, it’ll be because of him.
“I was ready to shut that door and lock it and bolt it. He has ensured that my heart remains open.”
Lupita adopted her cat, Yoyo, from the Best Friends Animal Society in October 2023 after she and sports commentator Selema Masekela split.
Coincidentally, that’s the same month she and Jackson were spotted together at a Janelle Monáe concert in Los Angeles.

Speaking about her split from Masekela, the Oscar winner shared with Harper’s Bazaar UK that she saw the breakup as an “opportunity to learn” more about herself.
“You go through a lot of like, ‘Why? What were the signs? Why didn’t I see them? And if I did, why didn’t I act on them?'” she said. “Also, replaying moments and thinking, ‘Oh, I felt this apprehension, and I ignored it. Why did I ignore it?'”
And while she has no regrets about expressing her feelings, Lupita now hopes to keep her relationships—breakups included—away from the spotlight moving forward.
“It’s hard enough to go through heartbreak privately,” she noted. “When the world has an image of you in relation to someone else, it prolongs the healing process because the memory is emblazoned in the public domain.”
Lupita and Jackson first confirmed their romance in December 2023 when they held hands while taking a stroll in California.
They took their relationship to the next level when they traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for a PDA-packed vacation in March of this year to celebrate Lupita’s 41st birthday.
Prior to their romance, Jackson, 46, was married to Queen & Slim star Jodie Turner-Smith for four years before filing for divorce in October 2023.
