Legendary R&B maestro, Luther Vandross, is getting a documentary, and this project has big names like Jamie Foxx and Colin Firth donning the producers’ hats.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the lineup of production companies is epic, including:
- Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content Division
- Sony Music Publishing
- Jamie Foxx’s Foxxhole Productions
- Colin Firth’s Raindog Films
Luther Vandross’ Story is In Capable Hands

Luther Vandross started his career singing backup for mega-stars like:
- Roberta Flack
- Chaka Khan
- Bette Midler
- Diana Ross
- David Bowie
However, he soon released his debut album, ‘Never Too Much’ in 1981.
And boy, did he score a home run!
The album sold a whopping 40 million units worldwide, and gave us hit after hit with songs like Endless Love, Here and Now, and Power of Love.
Luther became a regular fixture on the charts, earning 33 Grammy nominations before his untimely passing in 2005.
The recently recovered Jamie Foxx couldn’t hold back his excitement about the project.
“Luther is one of our GOATs. He’s one of the greatest singers in the history of music. It is truly an honor to be a part of the team to help bring this incredible story to the masses.”
The documentary promises an intimate look at Vandross’s rise to fame, his passion for music, and the challenges he faced along the way.

Friends and family are rallying to support this project, providing access to a treasure trove of personal archives.
Trilogy Films, the Estate of Luther Vandross, and estate partner Primary Wave Music are also chipping in to make this documentary a reality.
Dawn Porter, the woman behind this documentary, is stoked.
“Like so many, I have always loved Luther’s music, but I had no idea of the breadth and scope of his artistry. I think people will be surprised at how much he accomplished in his tragically short life. It is a joy to be able to share his true story.”
And coincidentally, the news about this documentary comes hot on the heels of another Luther-themed project: a biopic from Patrik-Ian Polk based on Craig Seymour’s book, Luther: The Life and Longing of Luther Vandross.
Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content group will distribute the documentary, with the involvement of heavyweight producers and executive producers like:
- Trish D Chetty
- Ged Doherty
- Datari Turner
- Leah Smith
- Eli Holzman
- Aaron Saidman
- Tom Mackay
- Richard Story
- Jon Platt
- Brian Monaco
- Phil Thornton
- Larry Mestel
- Natalia Nastaskin
