Whatever you do, please never ask Macy Gray to come join you for a smudging session. Chakra alignments are her thing, either.
The award-winning singer, who appeared on the new season of MTV’s The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets, prefers a rather simple but not fully legal way to chill and unwind.
“Oh, God,” Gray said in a confessional segment of the show. “I just don’t do the hippie s**t. Like, I live in L.A. – that’s hippie kingdom. If I’m healing, that’s not how I do it.”
Butting in, a producer asked.” How would you do it?”
Not one to hold back, Gray responded, with a laugh, “Like cocaine and a couple of shots. Get those edibles down my throat, and I’m good, girl. Then order me a pizza, and I’m straight. I don’t need all that s**t; I’m good.”
I can’t believe Macy Gray said this on national television ????#SurrealLife pic.twitter.com/h3G4iNRZZf

Well, it didn’t take long for social media to light up with reactions over the outspoken artist’s eccentric remarks.
Many fans were shocked that she dared make such bold admissions on national television.

Gray has been open about her struggles with both substance abuse and mental health. In 2021, the “I Try” singer told People, “Mental health is very neglected, and not just in this country, but I think globally.”
Reflecting on the pressure to appear strong, she added, “We’re all kind of socialized to just deal with our feelings. Your mother’s always telling you, ‘Be strong, and you’ll get through it. Don’t cry.’ But it’s very debilitating, and it’s expensive [to your mental health]. So that’s where I really want to help out as much as I can, especially with kids.”
Expounding on her experience with bipolar disorder, Gray explained, “I never thought it was something to be ashamed of until I got older, and people are just so quiet and secretive about it. I didn’t know that it was supposed to be such a secret.”

This season of The Surreal Life also includes stars Ally Brooke, Chief Hanks, Johnny Weir, Josie Canseco, Kim Zolciak, O.T. Genasis, and Tyler Posey.
According to the producers, this new season looks to push the eight-member celebrity cast “to their limits with missions aimed at unpacking their past and uncovering their deepest secrets,” all while they live together under one roof in Medellín, Colombia.
