Mary J. Blige and Fabolous have joined forces once again for a new music video.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul enlisted the Brooklyn rapper for the Friday (Aug 16) debut of “Breathing,” which was directed by Eif Rivera.
Rated RnB reports that “Breathing” was initially previewed during DJ Funkmaster Flex’s Thursday mix show on 107.5 WBLS last month and has since been featured in the DJ’s social media content.
This marks Blige’s first original release of the year.
“Breathing” was written by Mary J. Blige, Fabolous, Jocelyn “Jozzy” Donald, PurpleKBeats, and Jay Hawkins. Per The Source, the track contains samples of “Kick In The Door” by The Notorious B.I.G and “I Put A Spell On You” by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, and was inspired by Blige’s affection for Nina Simone.
“I do this in my sleep! It’s nothing easy!,” wrote the 53-year-old on Instagram, teasing the release.
According to Vibe earlier this year, the 2024 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee hinted at a possible retirement.
“I’m actually in the studio right now recording more music, and I’m having fun. I’m having fun no matter what happens,” detailed the My Life performer. “This is another album, and it’s probably my last studio album.”
She continued, “Nah, I’ve been doing it for a while,” adding, “I love it, I enjoy it, and it might be the last studio album. It might be.”
