Michael Ealy is stepping into the role of a lifetime.
The Think Like A Man star has officially joined the cast of Prime Video’s upcoming limited series The Greatest, which explores the life and legacy of boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
Ealy will portray civil rights icon Malcolm X in the project, which is being executive produced by Michael B. Jordan, with Ben Watkins (Hand of God) serving as showrunner.
According to Deadline, The Greatest marks the first authorized series on Ali’s life and career. The show promises to dive deep into Ali’s life both in and out of the ring and even showcase moments that took place outside the spotlight.
“The world remembers an icon, but The Greatest is about a man, a husband, a father, a brother, and a son,” the outlet noted.
Throughout his career, Ealy has been a fan-favorite pick for Malcolm X, with his name consistently floated in casting wishlists.
While this will be his first time portraying the civil rights leader in a scripted project, the About Last Night actor has previously performed powerful readings of Malcolm’s words, most notably in the documentary The People Speak.
Kat Parham (Colin in Black and White) has also joined the cast in a series regular role of Rudy Clay, Muhammad Ali’s brother.
Previously announced talent included Jaalen Best as Ali, Omari Hardwick as Cassius “Cash” Clay Sr., Dana Gourrier as Odessa “Bird” Clay, and Amin Joseph as Sonny Liston.
The series is produced by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society as part of an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Jay Z’s Roc Nation, Authentic Brand Group, Polygram Entertainment, Watkin’s Blue Monday Productions, and Grace: A Storytelling Company.
Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo also executive produces alongside Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali.
