Where do you draw the line when it comes to disciplining your child? And at what point does it stop being discipline and becomes abuse?
Twitter had a lot to say about this after a mom went viral for chopping her daughter’s box braids live on TikTok as a form of discipline.
In the video, the mom says her daughter “thinks it’s more important to be pretty than educated, more important to be a follow batty than a leader.” She then puts her phone down and goes on to say:
“I’m not a parent who likes to use physical discipline. Come here. You’re going to learn today, girl.” She then chops off her daughter’s braids. See the video below:

This rubbed people the wrong way, and many users came out attacking her disciplining skills. Here are some of the comments:

OMG! I want to cry for this child. As a single mom of a teenage girl, it’s definitely challenging but never in my wildest dreams would I humiliate my daughter like this. I know mom is fed up cause I’ve been there but this ain’t it… pic.twitter.com/cWxbT6uTtr

It was to “teach me a lesson.” All it did was get me talked about and laughed at and made me feel less of a person. I would have rather just received a whooping instead. So I started sneaking shoes to school. I would leave them at school in the locker and change when I got there.

To me it screams jealousy. She kept talking about her wanting to be cute. Ppl cast out how they feel about themselves towards others especially in situations like this. Cutting that baby hair was just to humiliate her

If you look the mom up on TikTok she keeps bringing her daughter on to show everyone how “happy” she is. She already humiliated her for everyone to see. Now she’s gaslighting tf out of her every chance she gets cause people have called her out. Of course her comments are off too.

I never understood cutting hair for punishment….. bc who are you to cut hair off??? That ain’t yours. Control much? Bc I’m pretty sure if it were there parent it would be a problem .

That’s a mom that’s jealous of her daughter. It’s not about discipline, she’s taking her down a peg. It’s disgusting and not nearly talked about enough.

Because let’s talk about it!!!! She sounded waaayyyy too satisfied as she was doing it and afterwards recording her. That poor girl is never gonna forget this shit…smfh. I wish I could help her in some way.

I peeped that the moment she had the camera on her asking her if she understands why she cut her hair off.. The hate is written all over that little girls face, but you can’t even tell. I hope she gets justice for this.

That look on the daughter’s face ? what does her hair has to do with homework and not listening ? then just repeating things and making her say yes doesn’t mean she agrees with you she is just telling you what you want to hear but really can’t wait to leave this toxic home!

How about taking her phone once she’s home everyday for a few days , how about no visitors or her daughter not visiting w friends for a few days you know what I mean REASONABLE punishments .. cutting her hair on social media ??? Wth ??

Like I seriously want to understand the thought process behind this. Why the hell do they think humiliating your child like this is somehow going to make them magically start taking school, chores etc more serious? Like do you seriously have NO other options? ?

Exactly. I’m like you may be looking a lil dusty. No new clothes no new hair style till you start acting correct, but cutting off her hair. Nah hair is a person’s pride espiecally at that age

This mom cut off her daughters hair as discipline.
You can’t tell me this isn’t abuse. In the follow up videos she gaslights her then says “you know I love you right?”
This is what a lot of abusers say to their victims.

Now, after going viral and users coming for her, the mom posted another video in a bid to explain why she did what she did. In the video, she also seemed to put a wig on her. Check it out:

What are your thoughts? Is this truly the best way to discipline your kid? Or is it just another form of gaslighting?
