According to recent reports, Monster’s Ball actor Coronji Calhoun has died at just 30 yrs old.
He died due to congestive heart failure and lung problems.
Mom, Theresa Bailey revealed that even though news of his death is just now hitting headlines, the young man actually passed on October 13th.
Coronji Calhoun played Halle Berry‘s son in Monster’s Ball and she went on to win an Oscar for her role in the film.
Halle Berry shared that she struggled to chastise Coronji during the movie. Her character berated him for being overweight.
“It was hard because he said something really heartbreaking to us: Marc and I were talking to him, saying this is just a movie, and I kept saying, ‘Everything I do and say, it’s not real, I really think you’re wonderful.’ And he said, ‘Well, whatever you do to me, Halle Berry, it isn’t going to be worse than what the kids at school do to me.’”
Halle Berry shared that she would show her affection Coronji Calhoun on set by “kissing him and hugging him every minute before and right after [scenes] and really making an investment in him.”
Since Coronji passed away, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover funeral expenses.
According to the details, mom did not have any life insurance on him.
It reads:
Hello community, family, and friends, I know this is a trying time for everyone, however, I am inclined to ask for your help because my son is in need of his community’s support.
Coronji Calhoun Sr. recently joined the ancestors in watching over me and our family on October 13, 2021.
At the age of ten, he portrayed Tyrell, son of Lawrence (Sean “P. Diddy” Combs) and Leticia Musgrove (Halle Berry) in the 2001 Academy Award-winning film, Monster’s Ball.
Unfortunately, we did not have any life insurance policy on him (as we never expected this tragedy to befall us) before he transitioned.
Now we ask for generosity in your donations as we prepare to give Coronji a sacred celebration of life.
Halle Berry and Lee Daniels–one of the directors of Monster’s Ball–both have donated a little over $3K.
Coronji Calhoun is survived by his mother, 10-year-old son, and 13-year-old stepson.
Rest in peace.
