Coi Leray and Nicki Minaj recently released their new single “Blick Blick” a song that will appear on Coi Leray’s debut album Trendsetter.
As part of that promotion, Coi Leray hopped on live with Nicki Minaj to not only promote the song but chat a bit about the industry.
During the conversation, Coi mentioned how she is grinding even through ‘the hate’ she goes through.
“You know even through the hate grinding through that, just grinding and now look like we was number one on Itunes, we met over a million… ”
Nicki then cut her off with some thoughts of her own.
Nicki said “can you girls stop talking about hate y’all have never, listen I promise you yall have never experienced hate like the way this guy here has experienced it.
So don’t wish for it, I’m telling you what yall have experienced is NOTHING! Yall have just experienced some of the growing pains of artistry, uh of social media.
She goes on to say, Ya’ll be thinking yall experienced hate and you ain’t experienced it.
She says that a lot of young women in rap have been coddled and people have been nice and gentle. Admitting that to some extent that’s ok.

According to Pitchfork In 2021, Coi Leray had a breakout year: Her singles “No More Parties” and “Big Purr (Prrdd)” were viral hits and she was part of the 2021 XXL Freshman class. She’s also been a frequent addition to remixes, appearing on the updated versions of Sleepy Hallow’s “2055” and YN Jay’s “Triple S.”
For Nicki Minaj, this single follows her recent collaborations with Lil Baby, “Do We Have a Problem?” and “Bussin.” She released her latest album, Queen, in 2018.
Twitter reaction:
I sucked @ my singing audition for Performing Arts HS & I was crying & walking out the door. My mthr had to get rlly stern w|me so that I went back inside & did my drama audition & they ended up loving me. If she gave me a pity party that day I would’ve LEFT & never known…

Nicki don’t offend me . I grew up on tough love. When someone is speaking who has more experience, always listen. That’s the problem y’all talk to damn much. Regardless of what she saying she coming from a good place.

That’s why I left the live up. I spent time just focused on HOW you’re such a talented, versatile, unique artist in my eyes. I talked on how your verse kept switching up & getting better & how dope those last 4 bars are to me… how I know for a fact you actually WRITE. BUT NO!!! https://t.co/yDQsE4DJr7

If all you get is coddled when you complain, you’ll feel the world owes you & you’ll never mentally develop the armor you need to navigate through your career. ppl using sympathy for every roll out isn’t going to sustain them over time. You’re going to get some hate. That’s LIFE

Do you agree with Nicki’s sentiments? Are ‘the girls’ coddled? Or are women in different generations just defining ‘hate’ according to their own experience.
