Nicki Minaj recently expressed her deep appreciation for Eve, crediting her for showcasing “emotional and spiritual maturity.”
In a heartfelt message posted to her X account on Sunday, Minaj—currently in the midst of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour—praised Eve for her recent “groundbreaking” remarks.
Minaj’s response was specifically tied to Eve’s reflections on the making of the 2016 comedy Barbershop: The Next Cut, a film in which Minaj starred alongside Common and Tyga, marking her debut in the beloved franchise directed by Malcolm D. Lee.
Eve speaking about Nicki Minaj on CNN. She’s very articulate. I love that for the black women in the game. Cardi B never sounds half as thoughtful or POTENT. Publicist and all. Still dumb pic.twitter.com/AQUr7GVbbi

According to Complex Nicki said, Eve handled this situation with both “grace” and “unapologetic talent and charisma,” all while making it “look easy” to those watching from afar.
“I was so nervous coming onto that movie set every day,” Minaj said when reflecting on the Next Cut shoot with “trendsetter” Eve, whose history with the franchise dates back to the original film in 2002. “You looked like a pro and I admired that so much. Thank you for trying to not do to me what was done to you. Women feel so much pressure to compete and it’s a shame because we usually have so much in common and could really benefit from one another just as human beings. We all share so many of the same experiences as artists, wives, moms, ups and downs, anxiety, etc.”
Minaj continued, “I remember telling a friend of mine that I didn’t think you liked me after our first day on set together. But you know something crazy? I swear. I KNEW that YOU could tell deep down inside that I really liked YOU. So you went easy on me.”
Dear Eve,
The various things you’ve shared recently, are groundbreaking (in my opinion) for so many reasons.
First, thank you.
The level of grace;
the level of emotional & spiritual maturity it takes to be this vulnerable & transparent is a sign of TRUE peace, happiness,… https://t.co/RDpvcye7lA— Nicki Minaj (@NICKIMINAJ) September 23, 2024
Who’s That Girl, Eve’s memoir with Kathy Iandoli, was released last week. The book, currently a No. 1 bestselling title in the rap and hip-hop biographies section at Amazon, is billed as the “definitive autobiography” of the Grammy-winning Ruff Ryders alum. Read a sample here.
