Normani’s love life just hit a high note.
The singer, 28, is officially engaged to her beau, her “answered prayer” NFL Star DeKaylin “DK” Metcalf.
Metcalf, 27, announced the news Thursday (March 13) during a press conference for his new team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“My family and her family was in Houston. It was my sister’s Spring Break and just thought about getting the whole family together for a big kumbaya and joining our families with the ring,” he said, adding that he proposed a day prior, on Wednesday (March 12).
Normani was present for the press conference, where she proudly showed off her diamond engagement ring.
“She’s right there. Hold that ring up, baby,” Metcalf exclaimed, gesturing to his wife-to-be.
In an interview with Vogue, Normani admitted that the proposal caught her completely off guard. “They got me good,” she said with a laugh.
“Honestly, I was so overwhelmed, I can’t even remember what was said. I just said ‘Yes, yes, yes, of course.’ The ring was beautiful. My baby did amazing. It was so beautiful and special, and he went above and beyond,” she added.

Later in the press conference, Metcalf revealed that he had been planning to propose for a while, so much so that he actually tried to pop the question last year during a family trip to Turks & Caicos, but the timing was off.
“I tried to [propose] last year,” he explained “But she’s a singer so her work kind of conflicted with the schedule so I just tried to take an approach to where a schedule didn’t matter.”
As for how he ultimately pulled off the proposal, the NFL star shared that he made it a romantic, storybook moment.
“I started sending her flowers with a story and then the last letter on the flower was ‘Will you marry?’ And she said yes.”
Normani and Metcalf first went public with their romance in 2022 after being set up by power couple Ciara and Russell Wilson, who Metcalf said have already congratulated them on their engagement.
Speaking to Vogue, Normani revealed that their love story actually began long before they met.
“Me and Ciara are really close, and Russell and DK were teammates on the Seattle Seahawks,” she shared. “About two years prior to us even meeting, they were playing music videos in the locker room and ‘Motivation’ ended up popping up on the screen.”
“He was like, ‘The moment that I saw you come up on that screen, I said, ‘That’s going to be my wife. That’s going to be my girlfriend one day. I was in a relationship at the time, and then the chips just fell the way that they did.”
Two years later, Ciara was throwing a party for her rum brand and was adamant that Normani attend—an elaborate setup she later realized.
“I ended up going, and lo and behold, he ended up being there, and the rest is history.”

As for Normani, walking down the aisle has been a lifelong dream—and she’s already envisioning what she’ll wear on the big day.
“I was definitely that little girl dreaming of what my wedding dress would look like, what my ring would look like, and what my dream proposal would look like,” she told Vogue.
“But for me, the most important part is that God has just been there. He’s been faithful to both of us, and I have found my dream man. There’s nobody that I would want to spend the rest of my life with and do life with. He’s literally my best friend, and I’m just really grateful that we found each other.”
She’s also grateful to be doing this alongside her family after what she says has been a challenging few years.
“I’m grateful that I get to do it alongside my mom,” she said.
“We’ve been through a lot as a family between my mom and my dad’s health issues: my mom was diagnosed two times with breast cancer, and she’s still here to see this day, and my dad had prostate cancer. I don’t take for granted that they’re both here to witness this monumental moment in my life—I’m really, really blessed.”
