This is so sad! A community is in mourning after Fayetteville police on Wednesday identified a high school student who sources said killed his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself according to WRAL.
At 8:15 a.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a home in the 3700 block of Carlos Ave. after receiving reports of a shooting.
According to Fayetteville police, Nasir Scott, 18, was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted gunshot wounds, where he died.
Tatiana Haywood, 18, who sources identified as the shooter’s girlfriend and a graduating senior at Douglas Byrd High School, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Haywood was set to graduate from this school two weeks from today. Her family is no longer planning a celebration but instead a funeral.
One neighbor who lives just two houses up the street said her family member heard the gunshots ring out, then heard sirens.
“My neighborhood has really turned into a gun-toting area. I don’t know what happened. When I first moved here it was really quiet and kid friendly,” says Nicole Jackson, who lives nearby.
She says with five children of her own, the teen deaths really hit home. She says she’s trying to give her own kids some space to process what happened.
“There’s always something. I’m not gonna say I’m surprised. This is starting to be a normal thing around here and it’s not good,” she says.
