Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker’s production of Othello is making Broadway history.
The Shakespearean tragedy, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, has set a new record as the highest-grossing play in Broadway history, earning a whooping weekly gross of $$2,818,297 in previews for eight performances.
This surpasses the previous record set by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which grossed $2,718,488 for the week ending December 31, 2023.
Directed by Kenny Leon, the Tony Award-winning director behind the recent revival of Our Town featuring Jim Parsons, Katie Holmes, and Zoey Deutch, Othello has also become one of the most hotly pursued acts on Broadway.
The average ticket price reached an impressive $338.90 last week—just slightly down from a peak of $361.90 the week prior. Othello tickets are in high demand, with premium seats currently selling for up to $900, according to sources.

The fact that Othello is available for a strictly limited time might also be driving up prices. According to Deadline, the show opens on Sunday (March 23) and will run through June 8 at the Barrymore Theatre.
Washinton plays the title character, a Moorish general who is part of the Venetian gentry until the jealous Lago (portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal), utilizes underlying racial tensions and political conspiracy to stoke fears about Othello’s character, leading him to ruin.
The Academy Award winner has previously starred in multiple Broadway productions, including Julius Ceaser, Fences, A Raisin in the Sun, and The Iceman Cometh. He won a Tony Award for Fences and was nominated for his performance in The Iceman Cometh.
Jake Gyllenhaal, known for his dynamic performances, previously starred in the Broadway revival of Sunday in the Park with George and earned a Tony Award nomination in 2020 for his role in Sea Wall/A Life.
Written by William Shakespeare in 1604, Othello remains one of his most celebrated and enduring tragedies.

The 2025 revival is lead produced by Brian Anthony Moreland and co-produced by Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA) stars Kandi Burruss and her husband Todd Tucker.
The couple has been mired in controversy lately after their upscale restaurant, Blaze Steak & Seafood, was hit with a $150,000 lawsuit over unpaid rent and repair costs.
Montego Pacific Inc., the property owner, filed the lawsuit in Fulton County State Court on Monday, March 3, alleging that Burruss and her restaurant owe $154,139.17 in back rent.
The suit also claims Blaze owes an additional $56,495.75 for property repairs along with a ten percent overhead fee.
If the rent remains unpaid, the suit claims Burruss could face an additional $12,083.50 per month in accrued interest. Neither Burruss nor her legal team has addressed the lawsuit yet.
