Pastor Keion Henderson turned heads this past Sunday after a video surfaced of him asking his congregation for help with the building fund.
“God gave me a vision and he said we can do it in 21 days. I’m asking 2,100 people to give $2,100 in the next 21 days,” he said in a message to supporters on Sunday, Aug. 11.
He is urging members and supporters to contribute toward The Lighthouse Church’s ambitious $4 million fundraising goal.
This effort aims to not only recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl to their north campus but also to build a larger and more expansive place of worship.
He titled the fund “Out of the Harbor,” drawing a parallel to a ship venturing beyond the safety of the harbor to fulfill its mission.
The church, with over 20,000 members, spans four campuses situated in the northeast, south, north, and west regions of the Houston area.
“I told my church we were going to start over and yet again I believe God said, ‘Keion, your faith was too small. So let me blow the building down. So you can build what I put in your heart,’”
“I want to increase the size of our sanctuary by two. I want to double the size of it so that no one who has an opportunity to get in is turned away because we don’t have a seat,”

Pastor Keion reached out to his close friend and mentor, Pastor Joel Osteen, to request the use of Osteen’s church for Lighthouse’s Sunday revival services in August after three of their campuses were closed due to hurricane damage.
They agreed to the arrangement, though the specifics of the services are still being finalized.
