The curtains are coming down on the Wayans family sitcom Poppa’s House.
According to Deadline, the CBS comedy, starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., has been canceled after just one season.
The announcement came Tuesday afternoon (April 22), as the network began clearing space on its schedule for the 2025-26 season. A competition series, The Summit, was also canceled along with Poppa’s House.
The first season of Poppa’s House will officially wrap on April 28, which will now serve as the show’s series finale.

The elder Wayans reflected on the sitcom’s creation in an emotional Instagram post, writing:
“Creating Poppa’s House was such a beautiful journey. My heart is full as I say thank you to every single person who made Poppa’s House such a meaningful experience.”
The series producer thanked the cast and crew, with a special shoutout for his son and co-lead.
“A very special thank you to my son, Damon Jr. working beside you has been one of the greatest joys of my life,” he continued.
“And to my incredible family, siblings, children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who showed up as writers, guest stars, and creative forces you made this journey even more meaningful. It’s such a blessing to have so much love on one set and to be able to create and laugh with family and friends.”
“Though Poppa’s House is coming to a close, I’m walking away with deep gratitude, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. This show gave me more than I could’ve ever imagined. To everyone who watched, supported, and believed in us thank you. Your love means everything. On to the next chapter, with nothing but love in my heart.”

Poppa’s House marked the latest collaboration between Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.
The series followed the elder Wayans as a legendary talk show host and happily divorced “Poppa,” whose worldview is challenged at work when a new female co-host (Essence Atkins) is hired — and at home, where he’s still parenting his adult son (Wayans Jr.), a brilliant dreamer trying to balance his passion with being a responsible father and husband.
Like most of their father-son projects, the sitcom was a family affair and featured numerous appearances from the Wayans family, including Marlon Wayans and Wayans Jr.’s daughter Amora Wayans, who was making her onscreen debut.
Damon Wayans’ sister, Kim, and nephew, Damien Dante, served as directors, while his son, Michael, was a staff writer.
