During his farewell speech tonight, President Obama not only spoke about his accomplishments and the value of our democratic institutions he also took a moment to address Michelle.
That moment was so rich with devotion, love and the perfect example of a man who just loves and respects his wife it was darn near impossible for me to contain my emotion.
He said:
“Michelle, for the past 25 years, you’ve been not only my wife and mother of my children, but my best friend. You took on a role you didn’t ask for and made it your own with grace and grit and style and good humor. You made the White House a place that belongs to everybody. And a new generation sets its sights higher because it has you as a role model. You’ve made me proud. You’ve made the country proud.”
Malia sat next to her sobbing and all of us who watched from our living rooms sobbed right along with her. We were, and are, so lucky to have them!
