R Kelly was recently rushed to the hospital according to TMZ.
The 58-year-old R&B singer, currently serving a lengthy federal prison sentence for racketeering, sex trafficking, and child pornography, has reportedly been rushed to the hospital after what his legal team describes as a near-lethal overdose in prison.
According to court filings, Kelly was placed in solitary confinement on June 10 at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina.
A few days later, prison officials allegedly provided him with significantly higher doses of his anxiety and sleep medications, far beyond what was prescribed.
On June 13, Kelly collapsed in his cell—dizzy, seeing black spots—and lost consciousness, crawling to his cell door before paramedics arrived.
He was taken to Duke University Hospital for two days, where doctors discovered serious blood clots in his lungs and legs, and even recommended surgery.
But before treatment could begin, armed officers allegedly removed him forcibly—against doctors’ advice—and returned him to solitary confinement
This incident comes on the heels of explosive allegations that prison officials—together with a white supremacist inmate—plotted to have him killed in exchange for benefits, though government prosecutors have dismissed this claim as a “fanciful conspiracy”.
Kelly’s legal team has now filed an emergency motion seeking his release or transfer to home detention, arguing that he’s under threat and that denying him needed medical treatment amounts to cruel and unusual punishment. A federal judge is expected to review the motion on June 20.
