Most celebrities would’ve killed to work with self-proclaimed image architect Law Roach, but not Keke Palmer.
During Wednesday night’s (October 2nd) panel discussion for his new book, How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence from the World’s Only Image Architect, Roach and Palmer reflected on their working relationship, including why it ended.
“So when me and Keke started working, we worked together years and years and years ago,” the celebrity stylist told People. “It didn’t quite work out, but we always loved each other. It was always love. It was always love.”
But while their previous relationship didn’t work out, the pair reunited to collaborate on a look shortly after Keke got pregnant with her son Leodis “Leo” Andrellton.
“I’m like, ‘Oh, let’s show the baby bump,’” he recalled.
“I’m bringing all these clothes and I could never get the clothes right. And one time she actually called me, she said, ‘You might be the best stylist in the world, but you’re not the best stylist for me.’ I f–king loved it.”
Law lives for a drag,” Palmer jokingly interjected.
“I love it, I love it,” Roach agreed. “But she was right though because in my mind I had this idea of how I wanted to present her. I wanted her to be proud of the baby bump and show it off. And it was her personal prerogative, she didn’t want to give it to the world yet.”
“So I will always love you,” he told The Hustlers actress.

Palmer has been vocal about her fashion metamorphosis since becoming a mom and how she was “quite self-conscious” about how she looked the entire pregnancy and after.
And now, almost two years since becoming a mom, she still doesn’t know if her style has completely “changed” or “come back around to who I’ve always been.”
“I think it’s one of those things where I was always kind of a serious kid,” she said during Wednesday’s discussion. “I was just always so ready to go to an office.”
“I think as I got older, and I was trying to figure out the differences between myself and my characters. And I was like, I want to try something different, I want to try something new to see if I am who I think that I am,” she explained, reflecting on her personal growth.
But while she enjoyed exploring new avenues, Palmer admitted, “And that was fun and enjoyable, but I think I ended up just always finding myself back to the big boss I’ve always been. I’m ready to run a company, you know what I mean?”
“I’m that personality, and so I think it’s very black Americana, it’s a little traditional. There’s some fun and some props here and there, but it’s just very much so that fierce bitch coming to take over.”
