Eboni Williams is about to embark on a new and exciting chapter in her life: motherhood!
The “Real Housewives of New York City” alum is expecting her first child, a baby girl – due Aug 16 – after undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).
“Anybody who’s gone through IVF will tell you so many things have to go right for the final result of this journey to be a baby,” Williams told People in an exclusive interview.
“That’s why I’ve called this “my remarkable miracle,” because it really does feel like I’ve been the recipient of some very enormous favor from God above.”
A Remarkable Journey Through IVF
Eboni Williams also revealed that she affectionately nicknamed her daughter “one of one,” a testament to the incredible luck and timing of her fertility journey.
At 34, the Equal Justice with Judge Eboni K. Williams star underwent a single egg retrieval without knowing when or if she would use those eggs. Six years later, that retrieval led to one genetically normal and remarkably special embryo, resulting in her current pregnancy.
Talk about defying all odds.
“I did one egg retrieval at 34, with no clear plan to use them,” the mama-to-be explained. “Six years later, that one retrieval yielded one genetically normal embryo that resulted in one successful transfer and pregnancy. It feels like fate.”
Eboni K. Williams: Embracing Motherhood at 40
But motherhood wasn’t always in the cards for Eboni Williams.
“I was not the little girl that grew up fantasizing about having kids,” the RHONY alum admitted. Even after freezing her eggs, the former public defender lacked a “surefire plan” to use them as a single woman.
Existential pandemic ponderings forced Williams to reevaluate her notions about legacy, love, and family. She realized she didn’t have to pigeonhole herself into societal expectations of motherhood.
“I freed myself from rigid conventions of how family should look,” the television host shared.
“Those are the three pillars I reassessed, and it helped shake me from this idea of, ‘I have to have it this way on this timeline everyone else is following.'”
Eboni Williams’ Bold Decision to Pursue Happiness
While contrarians may question her single motherhood by choice, the NAACP Image Award winner and first Black cast member of The Real Housewives remains unfazed.
“There will always be that voice that says, ‘Maybe I should have waited to meet a man and remarry before I had a baby? Maybe I should not be trying to do this alone,’” Williams continued.
But f— that!” she adds. “I’m not waiting. I’m 40 years old. I’m not waiting to build assets. I’m not waiting to build my career. I’m not waiting to travel. And I’m certainly not waiting to start a family.”
Her excitement is palpable as she concludes, “I just refuse to wait one more day. That’s where I’m at. Everything I want to do, I’m doing right now. And I’m excited. I feel as ready as I’m ever going to be.”
Congrats, Eboni!
