Remember back in 2013 when Rihanna debuted a mullet during New York Fashion Week? It was one of her most iconic styles that most of us shrugged off as “Only Rihanna can rock a mullet and get away with it”.
(Lord knows, you better know what you are doing when you mess with a rock star style like that.)
Anyway, she brought the look back and landed herself on every blog under the sun earlier this week as she headed to dinner and was photographed by paparazzi.
The 2020 version is slightly different from her 2013 mullet.
This is how her mullet looked in 2013:
And this is the updated version:
Rihanna was headed to dinner at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica wearing a vintage Pantera marijuana leaf-printed tee ($30), matching green-and-white pants and strappy white corset pumps ($740) from Fenty.
Her hair is a fuller version of the 2013 look and has some color added to it giving it some dimension as if it needed that already!
How To do The Rihanna Mullet at home
If you happen to be thinking about recreating Rihanna’s look we thought we would help you out a bit with some video inspiration.
Unless you like living on the wild side or you want a permanent look, we suggest doing this style on a wig.
Choose a wig that is silky straight with a premade closure. Like this one.
1. Fit the wig so that you can determine where to start cutting your bangs and sides.
2. Gradually cut your bangs until you can see your eyes and then use a flat iron to bump your bangs to perfection.
3. Use a razor to continue to create the shape of the bangs to create a wispy look to the front of the hair, either like Rihanna’s 2013 look or fuller like the 2020 mullet.
4. Use some Got2b Glued or some mousse to shape the sideburns according to your liking and the focus on the back of the hair. You can curl the ends of the hair to create some razzle-dazzle in the back or you can leave the hair straight.

Then there was this video:
In the below video, the YouTuber used an old wig that had some bangs to recreate a mullet, while in quarantine. To start she carved out the shortest part of the mullet in the front as an initial guide.
She used a razor comb to shave down the sides a bit, creating shorter pieces towards the front ensuring that you leave the sideburns out of the look. Use shears if you have some to cut the longer pieces to ensure you create the look you want.
Using a curling iron create curls in the back to finish the details. If you want to create Rihanna’s 2020 lool, all you have to do is cut the back shorter than what she has in the video.

For the sake of variety, you can check out this experimental video as well. this Youtuber used this picture as her inspiration to create her version of the mullet:
