Saweetie is so unproblematic its always werid when people literally find a problem. Recently the Icy Girl rapper had to call out a fan who claimed her success was due to colorism.
Accoridng to Vibe in a since-deleted tweet shared on Saturday (Sept. 28), one critic wrote,
“I bet Saweetie wakes up every morning, brushes her teeth, looks in the mirror, and thanks God for colorism.”
Saweetie replied:
“Yikes, tasteless humor. Nothing witty or clever about this whatsoever,” Saweetie wrote. “Matter of fact, joking about a serious psychological battle is never funny. If you don’t agree with my art that’s fine, but don’t identify me with a behavior that condones discrimination. Because I don’t. Thanks.”
Despite the user deleting the tweet and setting their profile to private, reactions poured in from other fans and critics alike.
“Mind you colorism hasn’t really benefited her career,” one on the opposing side wrote as another chimed in, “You benefit from colorism like all those who are considered light skin do. You might not thank God for it, but you’re part of the system whether you like it or not.”
Meanwhile, those reacting in Saweetie’s defense wrote tweets like “See & this is why I respect you.” Someone else added, “They hate a pretty rich b***h unprovoked.”
This isn’t the first time the Bay Area native has had to defend her Blackness, in spite of her biracial identity.
Back in 2021, a video surfaced of her and Too $hort chatting on Instagram Live, which led to him apologizing for his seemingly colorist stance. Regardless of him praising his affinity for “mixed heritage women,” Saweetie expressed, “Black women are beautiful, period.”
Since @idkthreat blocked me make sure y’all post the whole clip. Black women are beautiful period! pic.twitter.com/ZqP9py7VFR

Last week Saweetie dropped off the visual for her latest single “Is It The Way” on Friday (Sept. 27).
According to REVOLT she revealed a few tidbits about her long-awaited album. Her new track samples the Jill Scott classic “The Way,” as the rapper toils over the many ways she keeps male suitors captivated.
“Is it the way that I walk?/ Is it the way that I talk?/ Is it the way I keep it G?/ Maybe it’s the way that I do me/ Is it the way I keep it planned?/ Is it the way I do my hair?/ Is it the thighs or the hips?/ It is my vibe or the lips?” the Bay Area native raps.
Following its release, the Icy Princess hopped on Twitter for an impromptu Q&A session with followers, where she provided updated insight on what her debut LP, tentatively titled Pretty B**ch Music, will have to offer. For starters, the track list will have more than 10 bangers, but not all of the singles she has released as of late made the cut.
So far this year, she has delivered “My Best,” “NANi,” and the J White Did It-produced cut “Richtivities.” “I have experimented with every release this year. Visually, ‘Is It The Way’ definitely sets the tone for the album,”.
