Sexyy Red tried to clear the air on a caption she wrote on her natural hair Instagram post recently that seemingly called out women who had what she called ‘carpet hair’.
For context “Carpet Hair’ is often spun as a derogatory term used to describe dense natural 4c hair so naturally it would rub people the wrong way.
Her caption read:
you carpet hair beanie neck haux could never ????
and this was her video:
Her comment section was filled with accolades celebrating her hair but there were some who called her out for the caption saying it is rooted in ‘anti blackness’.
One commenter said:
stop referring to 4c hair as carpet hair challenge GO! yall be mad self hating and texturist
and another said it was weird:
But the carpet hair comment is weird to me! Sounds like something a yt person would say! But hey, I guess since she’s a black woman, no one cares! Smh
and another:
ITS THE CARPET HEAD FOR ME… THATS WILD.. I LOVE MY CARPET HAIR.. CANT TELL ME SHIT BOUT THIS NATURAL FRO ON MY TOPPP.. yo BONE STRAIGHT hair nice too.. but dont bash all the natural girlies.. we aint all say you was bald headed
and another:
So many of yall are sooo anti-black. Constantly trying to prove hair texture and length, and shading uniquely black hair textures, while looking up genealogy praying for European, Native American, and Asian blood lines
and
You can show us your hair without being antiblack bookie.
Hmmm carpet hair, y’all letting that slide ?
You’re a darkskin woman promoting featurism cause you have long hair- …… Girl
why the anti blackness ? nice hair tho i guess. Go off shoulder length queen
With her comment section on fire Red took to her Instagram stories to clarify what she meant.
“I fw people wit carpet hair dey coo but if you talking sht ima call you ‘carpet hair’ nun against my fello 4c hoochies’
We aren’t sure if the ‘4c hoochies’ are now ok with Red’s explanation but its 2024 anything’s possible.
