Gymnast Gabby Douglas and Simone Biles are headed to Rio for the Olympics and Teen Vogue decided to show the girls some love with two candid interviews with both girls for two separate covers. The issues will be released in August.
During the interview Gabby showed some love to her fans and told TV that she did not know she would have so many supporters:
“I literally never thought I would ever have so many people behind me. It’s so special. I feel like I’m one of theirs, you know?” Gabby, 20, shares. “Sometimes I’m like, why are all those people taking pictures of that wall? And then I realize I am standing in front of it.”
She was asked about the London games and how she felt about being ridiculed for her hair and not her work, this is what she had to say:
“It was very tough. Sometimes I would be in the bathroom, bawling my eyes out, wanting to quit,” Gabby reveals. “I felt like I was all alone. But when I came through it, I felt as if I could overcome anything.”
“It took a long time for me to see my own potential — a long time,” Gabby admits. It wasn’t until just four months before the Olympic trials in 2012 that she realized what she was capable of. “Finally something clicked and I knew I could be one of the best. It was a game changer. Now I’m like, ‘I am going for this. I’m going for it all.’”…
19-Year-Old Simone Biles is also dominating the gymnast world and she has her eyes on the prize in Rio. She is the only female gymnast to take home all-around gold at the prestigious World Gymnastics Championships three years in a row.
Teen Vogue asked her about her body image because she is considered ‘stockier’ than other gymnasts this is what she had to say:
“I was built this way for a reason, so I’m going to use it,” Simone says. If her jumps aren’t perfect, Simone asserts with confidence, she can focus on nailing impressive air rotations powered by her strength. “To go out there and prove what I can do has taught me a lot about who I am,” she adds. “We can push ourselves further. We always have more to give.”
