Solange Knowles’ multi-dimensional artistic works pump originality and innovation into projects across many different art platforms. Her critically acclaimed album A Seat At The Table is a conjunction of soul and social awareness. Her fluid and forward fashion sense is an ode and encourager of individuality. Her overall eye for design and composition exhibits just how eclectic and dynamic the taste of one woman can be; and now we’ll get to see her vision in a functional, everyday form after the release of her interior design collaborative effort with Swedish furniture heavyweight, Ikea.
While the furniture collection subtitled “Objects, Space, Architecture” is still in production and little detail is known about what will be available for purchase, we may be able to make some guesses about what Solange’s Saint Heron collective and Ikea may have in store. Perhaps avant garde-leaning, minimalistic furniture? Or maybe something completely bold and geometric like her beloved set designs.
Whatever the artistic direction may be, it’s important to note that this is not Ikea’s first time doing a crossover collaboration with a Black creative. Artistic director of Louis Vuitton and Kanye West affiliate, Virgil Abloh, recently worked with Ikea to create a furniture and accessory collection “designed for millennials”. His full creative vision was displayed and made available to us–fully representing Virgil; so it’s safe to say that what comes out of the Saint Heron x IKEA collaboration will be unapologetically Solange.
Knowles is currently working on a follow-up album to her 2016 release and has also been active in the fashion industry with her exclusive merchandise, Orion’s Rise and Cosmic Journey.
