Stephen A. Smith wanted Hollywood’s leading man – Will Smith, to be specific, to play him in his biopic, but after the slap heard around the globe, the renowned sports analyst is reconsidering.
Will Smith has received much support following the slap heard around the globe. However, sports analyst Stephen A. Smith disapproves of what seems like a historical moment and calls out Will for his actions.
According to the NYPost, Stephen Smith appeared on Comedy Central’s Hell Of A Week With Charlamagne Tha God on Thursday (Oct 21) and was questioned on who should portray him if his upcoming memoir, “Straight Shooter: A Memoir of Second Chances and First Takes” is adapted into a biopic.
The memoir, slated to release in early 2023, will offer readers insight into Stephen’s childhood, his relationship with his dad, and the trials he’s experienced as a sportscaster.
“Dammit, it would’ve been Will Smith before the slap! But I can’t go with him now,” Stephen said, referring to the controversy at this year’s Academy Awards, where the Oscar-winning actor was ostracized from Hollywood after he walked on stage and slapped Chris Rock. The comedian had made an off-the-cuff joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s alopecia.
When Charlamagne suggested that Will Smith would make a comeback after the controversy, “he ain’t going nowhere,” Stephen agreed:
“Listen. He’s Will Smith. We know he’s gonna be back. We got love for him. But you just don’t do something like that. You know what I’m saying? Stephen A. wouldn’t do something like that.”
So, which actor is left for consideration?
“Michael B. Jordan. Omari Hardwick,” Smith said. “They both look a hell of a lot better than me, but dammit, I’m stealing from them. So what do you want me to do? I’m gonna go with those names.”
The “First Take” commentator also noted that his friend Jamie Foxx would’ve been considered. “I would say Jamie Foxx, but he’s already trying to do Tyson (the Mike Tyson biopic).”
Charlamagne added that Foxx does an incredible Stephen Smith impression. To which the sports commentator responded: “He does Tyson exceptionally well. He does me aight…So I’m not going to give him too much credit for that.”
